Best Aldi wine dupes: Cheap alternatives for Whispering Angel, Oyster Bay, chicken wine and more

Aldi has this week slashed the price of its 'chicken wine' magnum bottles and whacked a limit on the number of bottles customers can buy.

The discount supermarket has dropped the price of the Grand Poulet Rosé Magnum to £9.99 down from £11.99 - and shoppers are only allowed to buy a maximum of three.

It comes as Aldi's wines have become a popular alternative to some of the priciest top wines on the market.

Shoppers can opt for both a Whispering Angel-style rosé and an alternative to Oyster Bay among the 'dupes' available.

We've rounded up some of the best Aldi wine dupes and cheap alternatives worth knowing about.

It's worth noting that these are literally exact copies of the pricier wines, even if they use similar grapes, more of a cheaper alternative.

Aldi Whispering Angel dupe: Chassaux et Fils Sainte Victoire

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Whispering Angel, Aldi's Provence rosé is one of the bottles to look out for.

Both wines are a light crisp rosé from Provence and use the same key grape varieties.

However Aldi's bottle comes with a price-tag of around £8.99 whereas Whispering Angel is typically £20 a bottle.

Whispering Angel can cost more than £20 a bottle, making the Aldi option potentially a significant saving if you like the pale, crisp Provence style.

Aldi chicken wine dupe: Le Poulet Rosé

Aldi's Le Petit Poulet Rosé has become a hit among fans of 'chicken wine' La Vieille Ferme.

The name comes from the chicken illustration on the label.

Aldi has now cut the cost of its 'chicken wine' magnum, which holds the equivalent of two standard 75cl bottles.

With a current magnum price of £9.99, it makes the wine less than £5 per standard-bottle equivalent.

The deal is available in Aldi stores from 27 August to 2 September 2026, while stocks last.

There is also a three-bottle limit per customer because of expected demand.

The wine is a light, dry rosé with citrus and red berry flavours.

Oyster Bay vs Freeman's Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

If Oyster Bay is your go-to Sauvignon Blanc, Aldi has a cheaper New Zealand alternative worth trying.

Aldi's Freeman's Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is made with grapes from New Zealand's Marlborough region.

That's the same famous wine-growing area associated with Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc.

The Aldi bottle has gooseberry, lime zest and passion-fruit flavours, with a fresh, fruity character. Aldi currently sells it for £6.99 for 75cl.

For comparison, Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc can cost around £11.75 a bottle at its usual price.

So if you're on a budget Aldi's Freeman's Bay is a good budget alternative if you like crisp, fruity Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Aldi Albariño alternative: Rías Baixas Albariño

If you like premium Spanish Albariño but don't want to spend a fortune, Aldi's Specially Selected Rías Baixas Albariño is worth considering.

The 75cl bottle costs £8.99 and is a dry, refreshing white wine with citrus and stone-fruit aromas and hints of honeysuckle.

It doesn't appear as a dupe for a competitor brand but is a good quality alternative when you're usually looking at spending at least £12-14 a bottle on Albariño from other supermarkets.
